European NTP servers
Fifty public time servers for synchronising computers, routers, cameras and other systems. National time institutes keep their country’s official time with atomic clocks and are the most authoritative sources. Use at least four servers from different operators.

Reading the table
- Stratum
- Distance from a reference clock. Stratum 1 servers are connected directly to an atomic clock or GPS receiver; stratum 2 servers synchronise from stratum 1, and so on. Lower is generally better, but a nearby stratum 2 server can beat a distant stratum 1.
- NTS
- Network Time Security (RFC 8915). It proves the answer really came from the server and was not altered. Supported by chrony 4 and ntpd-rs. Some operators use a separate hostname for it.
- Round trip
- Time for a request to reach the server and come back, measured from our server. Your own figures depend on where you are.
- Offset
- Difference between that server and our combined reference. Good servers stay within a few milliseconds.
- Leap smearing
- Google, Meta and Amazon spread leap seconds over many hours instead of inserting them. During a leap second their time differs from everyone else’s by up to half a second, so never combine them with other servers.
